It is desired to separate acetone-water mixture composed of 50wt.% acetone and 50wt.% water. To successfully perform the separation, Trichloroethane (TCE) is used as a solvent. The separation process consists of extraction of the acetone from the water into solvent Trichloroethane (TCE), which dissolves acetone but is nearly immiscible with water. The acetone extraction process involves a series of process mixers and unit operations (decanter and distillation units). The aim of the project is to obtain an acetone product stream with at least 95 wt.\% purity. 3.2. Design Considerations - The process of Acetone separation is built from mixers, separators (flash or decanter), and Columns (DSTWU distillation column). - There are two feed streams entering the mixer, where the first feed stream consists of water and acetone and second feed stream has Trichloroethane (TCE) pure. There is an additional solvent stream entering the second mixer which is used to enhance acetone extraction from water. - The key component to identify the second phase inside the decanter(s) is water - For the DSTWU, you may or may not include a free-water stream output from the condenser. In addition, the Acetone recovery in the distillate stream is at least 95%. i. Propose two different methods to improve the overall process. Explain your answer. (10 points)
