Germany used 2,460,000 barrels of oil per day in 2016, with approximately 70% consumed by small cars and trucks. If 20% of these were to be converted to fuel cell cars and trucks, what would be the annual savings in barrels of oil in the country? If all these oil savings come from octane (C8H18), what is the annual avoidance of CO2 emissions? All the hydrogen will be produced by electrolysis of water, with electric power provided by wind turbines.
