It is tax filing time again and Mr. Robert Hope has come to you and has asked you to prepare his 2017 Income Tax Return. The following information has been provided regarding Robert and his family for 2017:

1 Mr. Robert Hope is 67 years of age, in good health, and has a Net Income and Taxable Income of $94,487 for 2017 which has been correctly calculated. Included in his net income calculation were the following:

Old Age Security $6,787

CPP Benefits 7,400

Bank Interest 1,000

RRSP Withdrawals 600

Other Income 4,700

Employment Income 74,000

Note: All the amounts are shown in Canadian Dollars.

2 Robert worked for Big Show Enterprises and had the following deducted from his employment income during 2017:

EI $836

CPP 2,564

Income Tax Withheld at Source 12,000

Life Insurance Premiums 400

3 Robert is happily married to his lovely wife Delores who is 66 years old. Delores is considered

mentally infirm (but not severe enough for the disability tax credit) and has the following income

Old Age Security $6,787

Interest Income 800

4. The Hope family include 2 children:

a) Eleanora - Age 28, William (infirm) - Age 25

b) Eleanora , Robert's daughter, wanted to take courses at Saskatchewan Polytechnic on a full time basis. Robert paid the following tuition amounts for Eleanora to attend Saskatchewan Polytechnic:

Sept to Dec, 2017 $4,100

Jan to Apr, 2018 3,900

Eleanora has a part time employment income and had Net Income/Taxable income of

$4,500 in 2017 (ignore and CPP & EI contributions)

c) William is blind and has been certified as disabled by a physician. He has been living at home and relies on Robert for support. William's only source of income is from investment and he had $11,000 Net Income/Taxable Income in 2017.

5. All parties have agreed to transfer any credits they can to Robert.

6 Robert is a generous person and has given money to charities in many of the past years. In 2017 he donated $700 cash to the Canadian Cancer Society a registered charity. In addition, Robert's gave $1,500 to his sister (Sidney) who was having financial difficulties.

7 Robert contributed $800 to the Conservative Party of Canada a Registered Federal Political Party in 2017.

8 For simplicity, assume Provincial or Territorial Tax on line 428 is $5,900
