Jackie is a 6 year-old. Her parents increasingly feel that she is "ruling the house". At dinner time, for example, she continues to watch TV instead of turning off the TV and coming to the table when called. After her mother's third exasperated request "Jackie will you turn off that TV and come to the table?" fails, her father gets up and turns the TV off without a word. Jackie gets up immediately and, also without a word, turns it back on. Her father shakes his head and her mother then says "fine watch the end of the show, but get over here as soon as it is over". Her parents begin eating. Jackie joins them a few minutes later, but does not eat what has been prepared, instead complaining and playing with her food. As her parents ignore her, she leaves the table and goes to the refrigerator where she takes out a yogurt tube and begins to eat it standing in the middle of the kitchen. Her parents look at each other, roll their eyes, and exchange sighs, but do not intervene to get Jackie back to the table or to make her eat the meal.
