Jackson is the manager of the Douglas Arms Hotel, a posh boutique hotel located in New Westminster, British Columbia. It is one of twenty hotels owned and operated by the Douglas Corporation. Jackson hired Jock as the security guard for the hotel and provided Jock with a splashy new yellow uniform, a flashlight, a cell phone, and a container of pepper spray. Jock has a small office with a telephone and personal refrigerator. He also has his own computer and a corporate email address (jackson1@douglascorporation.ca) 

The company pays Jock $24 per hour and provides him with benefits such as basic dental and extended health care in addition to paying normal benefits such as EI (Employment Insurance), CPP (Canada Pension Plan), and MSP (Medical Services Plan). Jock is assigned to work exclusively at the Douglas Arms Hotel and his work shifts rotate so that he works mostly evenings. Jock is also required to work on weekends two (2) 4 out of every four (4) weeks of the month. Jock works exclusively for the Douglas Corporation on a full-time basis spending his free time with his wife and two young sons. Jock plays for the company hockey team, baseball team and soccer team and regularly attends company functions such as the Christmas party, the annual picnic, the spring barbecue and the Valentine’s Day soiree. One evening, a suspicious looking character named Hunter entered the hotel lobby. Hunter paused briefly and then continued on to the boutique store. From all appearances, Hunter looked like a bad dude. He wore a leather jacket with chains, a nose ring and even had a tattoo on his arm. If Jock were a betting man, he would have guessed that Hunter probably smoked as well. 

Jock followed Hunter at a distance. At one point, Jock thought he saw Hunter slip some store merchandise into his pocket. Jock sprung into action and immediately jumped Hunter from behind without warning, subdued him, dragged him into the back of the store and locked him in a small office that had no other means of escape. Jock called the police and an officer arrived two hours later. It turned out, however, that the item that Hunter slipped into his pocket was his new iPhone 12 Pro Max and not store merchandise at all. When everything was sorted out, Jock learned that Hunter is, in fact, an executive with a new hi-tech start up company located in Richmond. Jock apologized for the slight misunderstanding but told Hunter that he had to accept part of the blame since his appearance made him a suspicious looking type of guy. 

Hunter wants to bring a lawsuit against Jock and the Douglas Corporation, if possible. Discuss the tort(s) for which Hunter might be able to sue Jock, whether or not Hunter can successfully sue the Douglas Corporation as well as the reasons he would even want to sue the Douglas Corporation.
