Janet has recently taken on the role of managing director of Friendly Finance, a financial services company. Friendly Finance have 12 offices in suburban Melbourne and 12 offices in regional Victoria. The offices vary in size with some employing as few as 3 staff members, while others employ up to 15 staff. The office managers vary in age from 35 to 65, and there are approximately equal proportions of male and female managers. Janet believes that it will improve the public image of the company if they 'Go Green'. Janet plans to start improving the company's environmental image by increasing the amount of paper which is recycled by the company offices. Currently, all offices have a paper recycling bin located at the rear of the office building, which Viby Recycling collects on a regular basis. One of the office managers suggests placing a small recycling bin at each desk in the office in order to increase the amount of paper recycled, and Janet decides to run a trial program to test the efficacy of this. Janet randomly selects 6 offices from regional areas and 6 offices in suburban Melbourne to receive the new bins. Janet wants to make sure that the bins are correctly placed so she personally visits the 12 offices which have been allocated bins, and while she's there she discusses with them the importance of presenting a 'Green' image to their clients. At the end of one month Janet records the amount of paper recycled at each of the company's offices (in tons). Janet compares the amount of paper recycled by the offices which were provided with the new bins to the amount of paper recycled by the offices which were not provided with bins.Is this study experimental or observational?
