Jennifer was working alone in the office on a Wednesday afternoon. The door was unlocked so that patients could come in to book appointments. Donald arrived and demanded to see the doctor. Jennifer told him the doctor was not in the office and asked if she could help him.
Donald said, "I know he is here, and I want to see him." Jennifer repeated herself, but at this point, Donald started to move behind the reception desk towards the doctor's office. Jennifer panicked because there were patients' charts in the area.
She said, "You cannot go back there!" She tried to physically block him. Donald grabbed Jennifer's arm, and she screamed. Donald ran out of the office.
Within a minute, Nancy came running into the office. Nancy is an MOA who works down the hall and heard Jennifer scream. They called the police, but the police refused to press charges and said that Jennifer should have known how to handle the situation.
Do you agree with the police? Why or why not?
Could this situation have been handled differently? What could have been done differently?
