Jenny and Bob are a couple from America visiting the outback of Australia. They checked in to a motel called “Red Centre” in Uluru, for a few days. Their stay was pleasant and comfortable until they discovered just before checkout that Jenny's expensive Seiko watch was stolen from their room; apparently because the door lock was not functioning properly. Jenny pointed this out to the manager and claimed compensation for the stolen watch. The manager of the motel, Harry, refused the claim by Jenny. He drew Jenny's attention to the sign on the wall of their bedroom that says, “The motel management will take utmost care of the guests but will not be liable for any loss or theft of any of their belongings.” In fact, Jenny never saw this sign as a painting hanging on the wall obstructed the view of it.
