Jenny Lanstrom, regularly visits her grandfather, Mike Lanstrom, every Thursday night. Jennys grandfather has been a widower for the past six years. Jennys grandfather is very intelligent. He is a decorated veteran of World War II, and over the years, he has been active in community service. Because Mile Lanstrom practiced as a family doctor for 46 years, he is a respected member of the community. For the last several months, Jenny has noticed something different about her grandfather. Lately, he has been agitated and upset.

One Thursday night, Mike told Jenny about products that he has been buying over the phone. As Jenny investigated further, she realized that her grandfather had bought several products from a vendor by the name of Products for Life. Although the transactions were not large, the total amount had already added up to several hundred dollars. The next day, Jenny decided to research the company on the internet. Surprisingly, she was unable to find any information about the company. She became extremely worried that someone was taking advantage of her grandfather.

1. What should be the first thing that Jenny does? Should she bring up a discussion with her grandfather letting him know that there is a possibility of fraud? How would you suggest approaching her grandfather with this very alarming news?

2. Jenny has learned that she must be careful with how she brings up the subject to her grandfather. She knows that there are certain words that she should not say because of the way that the elderly feel and deal with cases of fraud. What are some examples of things that she should not say to her grandfather?

3. Over the years, there have been many cases of fraud that involve the elderly. Why are they so vulnerable to fraudsters?

4. What tactics do fraudsters use to affect the emotions of the elderly?

5. How do you think Mike Lanstrom will react to the suspected case of fraud?
