Jimmy Splits owns and manages a restaurant in North Ryde. Jimmy only accepts cash payments from customers. Any of his staff can collect cash payments from his customers, and put the collected cash less change into the cash register. Customers are not given a receipt. At the end of each day, he counts the cash in the cash register, uses some of the cash to pay his staff their wages for the day, and takes the balance home with him. At a time that is convenient he banks the money in his local branch of CAB Bank. Due to the very busy nature of the restaurant business, this can sometimes take up to 10 days for the cash receipts to be deposited in the bank. The total from the cash register is produced each month for the business's bookkeeper to prepare the business activity statements. Jimmy trusts his staff as they all come from his home town. Recently, one of Jimmy's staff befriended a university student who regularly brings many of her friends to the restaurant for meals. Soon after this, Jimmy feels that the daily amount collected appears to have decreased even though the amount of customers has increased. Required: Review the internal control environment in Jimmy's restaurant by reference to three (3) principles of internal control. For each internal control principle identified: a) Provide information from the question to identify the breach and (3 marks) b) Offer a remedy so that Jimmy Splits will comply with the principle of internal control identified. (3 marks) Word limit
