PROBLEM STATEMENT Causes of failure of clutch plate is due to excessive clutch slippage and incorrect gear selection. A single plate clutch has less capability of transmission of torque, which is its disadvantage. As the torque is low, so the loss of power is also less. So, we are designing a dry single plate clutch that can withstand overload, that would be able to protect other parts from being damaged when the input force exceeds the required torque. We want to design a dry single plate clutch to the following specifications: - Power=21 KW -SPEED=2200rpm- Number of springs=8 - Number of toggle levers=3- Mechanical advantage from pedal to clutch=18 - Ratio:radialwidtoffricctionfacesmeanradiusoffrictionfaces=4- Ferodo fabric with intensity of pressure of80KPaand coefficient of friction of0.22. - Increased normal load on the springs by20%- Fir the spring, take a safe stress of380MPaand a mean coil diameter of30mm. - Assumptions: The spring has six free coilsG=80000000000PaFor a toggle levers, use a mechanical advantage of six and take the depth as being equal to2.5times the width Allowable bending stress in the toggle=65MPa
