Joey is a 21-year-old Japanese-American college student enrolled at Florida State University (FSU), majoring in criminology and sociology. At his university, he is a board member in his fraternity, and president of two academic organizations. Recently, Joey has felt very tired. He slept through two exams this past semester, and his grades are starting to slip. Since he is applying for law school the following year, Joey is slightly nervous that he will not be competitive during the application process if he keeps sleeping through his exams. He frequently tells himself that he feels "sad" for not waking up on time, and tries to eat away his feelings with fast food. On top of his hypersomnia, Joey has had difficulty with keeping his attention while in class. Joey's fraternity brothers have noticed that he hasn't attended recent chapter meetings, and that he called in sick at organized recruitment events. Joey drinks about one alcoholic drink per week, when he goes out with his girlfriend, Sammy. Although they go on weekly dates, Sammy has recently noticed that Joey has been canceling on their dates together. When Sammy does see Joey, he appears irritable and cranky. Joey reports that he has lost interest in his fraternity and his relationship with Sammy. Medical reports further reveal that Joey was treated for a malignant tumor in his kidney approximately two months ago. In addition, Joey reports that he is taking diet pills to help manage his increasing weight, since he is also part of the cross country team at FSU. Joey reports that he sometimes has fleeting suicidal thoughts, with no current plan or intent to actually kill himself.
