John, Paul and George were about to enter the Kuranda State Forest when they observed the following sign:
John, who is a paraplegic, was on his electric wheelchair. Paul was riding his eBike. Although the eBike had a pedal assist mode, Paul was using the bike in throttle mode. George was riding a dilapidated conventional bicycle that he had purchased at the Buy Back Shop at his local Waste Transfer Station (garbage tip). The three men concluded that they could enter the forest on their various forms of transport. However a hundred meters into the forest George hit a rock and buckled his front wheel. George threw the bike into the bushes and told the others that he would proceed on foot and that he would probably not come back to collect the bike.
About 10 minutes after George hit the rock the three men were stopped by Donald, a forest officer, who asked them about their activities in the forest. John informed Donald that he was going to harvest some honey from native bees that were located some distance away. Paul informed Donald that he was riding his eBike in throttle mode to conserve his energy for the
downhill tracks that were just up ahead. George stated that he had thrown his bike into the bushes as it had failed one too many times. Donald informed the men that each one of them were breaching the law and that proceedings would be brought against them. Donald told John that it was an offence to locate hives and harvest honey in the state forest and that it is an offence to traverse the forest on a motorised wheelchair. Donald also told Paul that it was an offence to traverse the forest on his eBike. Finally Donald told George that it was an offence to abandon his bike in the state forest. Donald then asked each of the men for their full names and addresses and Paul and George complied with the request. John, however, was less compliant and simply stated that his name was John and that he lived in a care facility.
