John Smith is near death and unconscious. He will be soon on life support or in a "vegetative state."He has an extensive support system including his mother, son, ex-wife, current (but estranged) wife, and his parish priest. They are all present at the hospital.

John has planned well. He has an organ donor card, Living Will, and had given his ex-wife a medical power of attorney (or health care proxy)before the divorce that was never revoked.

John's mother wants him to die naturally and donate his organs. His current wife wants him to die quickly, have no autopsy, and be immediately cremated without donating anything. His ex-wife wants him kept alive no matter what.

John's priest will offer guidance to the correct party.

John's Living Will says that he wants no heroic measures and does not want to be left in a "vegetative state."
