Josiah is a 9 year old 3rd grade student with autism. Josiah becomes excited and upset when he hears unexpected loud sounds like something falling on the floor or the school bell or a siren. He holds his hands over his ear and cries and this behavior can continue for up to 30 minutes after the noise is gone. He reacts to changes in routine by refusing to do the task or activity. Josiah can speak in simple sentences and he has a good understanding of what is said to him. He attends 3rd grade regular education classes for math, history, science, specials and homeroom. He is in a special education classroom for reading and writing where he is working on reading and writing at a 2nd grade level. He enjoys the computer and has a friend in his classroom that he plays computer games with. You have been assigned to work with Josiah as a paraeducator to help him to be more successful in school.
