Journal #1:

• After completing your first role-play session, what are you most proud of?
• What came most easily to you? What was most challenging?
• What did you do to enhance the working relationship / develop rapport?
• What, if anything, do you wish you could do over? What would you change and why?
• What concrete strategies did you use in keeping with AOP and TIP?
• What emotions did you experience during the session and how did you manage them?

Journal #2:

• What microskills did you practice?
• What went well?
• What do you want to keep working on?
• Provide examples of how you used some of the Principles of SSW Practice (i.e. client self-determination, acceptance, non-judgmental attitude, individualization, etc.).
• What surprised you about this role-play counselling session?
• What did you learn from this?

Journal #3:

• What assumptions did you make during the session?
• What's something the client did or said that provoked a reaction for you? What did you learn from this experience?
• How will you use this knowledge to better your relationship with the client?
• How are you feeling about terminating the counselling sessions next week? How do you think your client might be feeling about terminating?
• What ideas do you have to make the last session meaningful?

Journal #4:

• How did you feel ending the sessions with your role-play client?
• How do you feel about the client's reaction to ending the counselling sessions?
• What are you proud of regarding how you ended the counselling sessions and what do you wish you could have done differently?
• What was important to you about this counselling experience overall?
• How will you use this experience to become more skilled at supportive counselling?
