Journal entry question Please provide references if any

The owner of a marina promised to gift a friend a boat which would be delivered to him 6 months later. In the meantime, the owner recommended that his friend reserve moorage at his marina. The friend did so but then the owner reneged on his promise to give him the boat and sued for payment for the reserved moorage. What would a judge likely rule in this case
