One month later Bob, in a state of depression precipitated by his injuries, committed suicide by jumping in front of a train driven by Catherine, an employee of City Rail. As a result of this incident, Catherine suffered a psychiatric illness which rendered her unfit to work as a train driver.

Bob is survived by his wife and two infant children. Prior to his death Bob and his wife were executive directors of and shareholders in a family company which conducted a chain of news agencies.
