Juvenile or adolescent psychopathy is hard to measure simply because, at some point, a child can outgrow the behavior and tendencies. It is important to note that these character traits can be inherited and passed down. It is hard to tell which juveniles will become long-term offenders through adulthood. Because the part of the brain in the prefrontal cortex that is responsible for being able to recognize dangers and consequences does not develop until late adolescence to early adulthood, it is hard to measure psychopathy in children.
