Karen applies for an executive assistant position to the VP of her bank. She strongly feels that she has all the qualifications for the positions and meet all the requirements detailed in the position posting. Karen is surprised to learn that a newly hired employee at the bank got the promotion. Karen learns from friends that the new hire has less time and did not meet the substantial qualifications of the postings. Karen approaches her immediate supervisor Carl and requests a meeting. In the meeting Carl informs her that she did not get the position because she was married. He explained that the VP desired someone who would be able to attend functions in town and out of town.
