KidTec produces child safety products, including two models of automobile safety seat, the EasyGo and the ComfortRide. Each seat has three major components: the plastic body, the safety belt, and the foam and cloth covering. The same body and safety belt are used for both models of seat, but the coverings are different. All components can cither be made in-house by KidTec or purchased from a vendor. The table below provides the in-house manufacturing costs ("Make") and the purchase costs ("Buy") for one unit of each component. KidTec's sales department has estimated the demand in the next quarter as 500 EasyGo seats and 750 ComfortRide seats. The available machine time for the safety seats for the current production run is limited to 240 hours of regular manufacturing time and 40 hours of overtime. If overtime is used, the company must pay an additional cost of $12 per hour. The manufacturing times for one unit of cach component are as follows: body, 10 minutes; safety belt, 6 minutes; EasyGo covering, 7 minutes; ComfortRide covering, 8 minutes. Develop a lincar program to determine the number of units of each component that should be manufactured and/or purchased, with the goal of minimizing total production cost.
