Assume that any curves are circular (i.e. the curve makes a perfect circular arc segment) and that the light beam is a perfect line entering the fibre exactly in its centre.

a) Draw a diagram of the situation showing the light beam, the core and cladding of the fibre, and a circular bend.

b) What is the ratio of the indices of refraction of the core and cladding material? I.e. find ncladding/ncore.

c) If ncore = 1.48, what is ncladding?
