Knudsen and Bethune, authors of the article, Manifestation determinations: An interdisciplinary, guide to best practices, share alarming data from the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights, "students with disabilities are suspended more than twice as often as their general education peers (2014, p.154). Knudsen and Bethune (2014) further address reasons for suspensions such as behaviors that are nonviolent, poor interpersonal relationships, attendance problems, and family problems. 1.
