Kumalo Manufacturing (Pty) Ltd (KM) had one transaction relating to the disposal of a capital
asset during the 2024 year of assessment ending on 31 March 2024. KM has an assessed capital
loss of R15000, which was brought forward from the previous year of assessment.
KM bought a new and unused manufacturing machine (ZP) on 1 June 2022 for R550000(excluding VAT) and brought it into use on the same date. On 1 July 2023, KM made improvements to
machine ZP at a total cost of R250000. KM had to make this improvement to accelerate the daily
output of machine ZP. Unfortunately, the improvements did not yield the required results, and KM
decided to sell machine ZP on 15 March 2024 for an amount of R948750(including VAT).
Calculate the taxable capital gain resulting from the disposal of machine ZP for
Kumalo Manufacturing (Pty) Ltd for the year of assessment ending on
31 March 2024.
