Kurtis and Dale Kurtis is charged with manslaughter and placed on remand (in prison awaiting trial). Whilst on remand Kurtis gets into a fight with another remand prisoner (Dale) who has been verbally abusing Kurtis since he arrived. Dale said to Kurtis he was going to "do him" and that "he better watch out". After weeks of threats from Dale, Kurtis decides to confront Dale - Dale produces a homemade shiv (knife) which Kurtis wrestles from him, in the resultant fight Dale is stabbed 5 times, the final blow severing his aorta. Dale dies. Kurtis is further charged with murder
