Lab 2 -Determining Sound Exposure using Dosimeter Data Introduction A Sound Dosimeter is a sound measurement tool that is similar to sound level meter with the unique ability to record sound level exposure over a period of time.
Objective: Determine the sound level exposure over from the data provided.
Resources and Methodology: Using a sound level meter application as in Lab #1, use the dosimeter feature and record your sound levels for five (5) days. In a table, list the TLV-TWA for sound for the five days.
Note: Make sure to exclude one hour per day for lunch breaks.
Note the activities and locations that are being completed during the duration of the dosimeter study.
Discussions: 1. From the table generated, explain the values obtained during the course of your investigation. Do they conform to the OEL threshold setup by the Ministry of Labor? Explain.
2. Determine the sound exposure using TWA or Leq forumula for the following scenario: A foreman working at a train maintenance depot is exposed to the following noise levels during a typical workday.
Workstation 1 - General maintenance area: 85 dBA for 3.75 h
Workstation 2 - Office area adjacent power-washing bays: 90 dBA for 2 h
Workstation 3 - Mechanic Shop: 95 dBA for 2 h
Workstation 4 - Construction Zone outside loading bays: 110 dBA for 0.25 h
Discuss the values collected and compare results Ministry of Labour Occupational Exposure Limits.
