Lab 3: Projectile Motion 1
Learning Goals:
- Measure projectile motion
- Design an experiment
- Determine independent and dependent variables
- Use Excel to plot data
Materials:
- Cornhole set
- Excel
- Matlab
- Ipad, tripod, two meter stick
Instructions:
You and your partners will design and execute an experiment using the equipment described in the pre-lab. Remember to carefully plan for all of the data you need, as well as how you plan to collect it. Keep careful track of this data, and remember all of the necessary steps to collect it.
Reflection Questions:
- What conclusions about velocity and acceleration in the x and y directions can be made from the plots (x vs time, y vs time, y vs x)?
- Is velocity constant in the x direction? Why/why not and how do you know? If yes, what is the value and how did you get it?
- Is acceleration constant in the x direction? Why/why not and how do you know? If yes, what is the value and how did you get it?
- Is velocity constant in the y direction? Why/why not and how do you know? If yes, what is the value and how did you get it?
- Is acceleration constant in the y direction? Why/why not and how do you know? If yes, what is the value and how did you get it?
- Estimate the uncertainties in measurements and describe some sources of error.
Submission:
Keep a detailed record of your activities perhaps in your lab notebook. You will need to review this information for next week. Be sure to include graphs of your data in your lab report for this w
