Lab 3:Acceleration of Gravity

Zada Badger

Lab Partners: Whole class

Instructor: Kevin Wynne

Lab Date/Time: 09/12/2022

Theory

The objective of this experiment was to measure the acceleration of gravity with its uncertainty through the use of a Central Scientific Company spark tape apparatus.

Equation (1) is the distance equation that we used for lab 2.This is a second order polynomial equation that would look like a curved line if it were graphed. We graph this equation first and fit a line to it to estimate g and v0 so explain all of the variables in it.

(1)

The slope of the position Vs Time graph Eq. (1) is the velocity graph that is modeled by Eq. (2). Explain the relationship in detail here, make sure to make note of the fact that it is a linear equation. We fit this to the velocity graph to estimate g and v0.

(2)

The velocity graph can be calculated from the position data with Eq. (3), explain how this works.

, (3)

In the theory I want you to explain how the equations are related as you work through them in the theory, this relationship is the key to the whole lab. Make sure that you explain all of your variables in the equations with units (see the examples for help here). You only need to explain a variable one time in the theory section and it is assumed that the reader knows what it is from there on out. For example, when you describe Eq (1) you will tell the reader that g is the acceleration of gravity with units of (m/s2), when g comes up again in subsequent equations you do not need to explain it again just explain any new variables or constants.
