LAB INVESTIGATION Bernoulli's Principle Purpose To purpose of this lab is to demonstrate Bernoulli's principle. Hypothesis Make a prediction of what you think has the greatest or least effect on friction. Figure 20.4
Materials Thirty (30) long drinking straws Two (2) empty small aluminum cans (you may use pop cans) Procedure 1. Lay out 29 of the straws side by side on a table, about 1 cm apart, as shown in Figure 20. 4. You should be able to roll the straws easily, so align and place them carefully. 2. Place the two cans next to each other on top of the straws about 6-8 cm apart. 3. Using one straw, align yourself so that you can easily blow through the straw between the two cans. 4. Predict what will happen when you blow. The carry out the experiments. 5. Record your observations in a chart. 6. Repeat the experiment for various distances between the cans.

SPH4C - Physics Lesson 20 Analysis 1. Draw a diagram similar to Figure 20.4, and draw arrows in the diagram to represent airflow, the high-pressure region, the low pressure region, and the motion of the cans. 2. Did the can's behaviour change with the distance separating them? 3. Will altering the position of the straw used to blow air between the cans alter the can's behaviour? Discussion Summarize your findings by answering the following questions in a paragraph.
1. What did you do? What was your purpose? 2. How did you do it? What technique did you use to collect your data? 3. What were your results, and do they agree with your hypothesis? Report any experimental values. Be sure to include any relationships between variables, and mathematical models. 4. What are sources of error in this lab?
