Labor unions greatest growth in the last three decades has been among public sector employees, including police offiicers, firefighters, and teachers. Some parties have asserted that collective bargaining should not be permitted in the public sector, since unions representing public employees often support and contribute to the elected officials with whom they must negotiate.
