In the example solved in class, a room of 6000ft3 is heated by a hydronic (hot water) radiator. Water enters the radiator at a temperature of 180F and exits the radiator at 160F at mass flow rate sufficient to maintain an interior temperature of 68F against an outdoor temperature of 22F. This room has a net R-value of 8.2ft2Fhr/BTU and an area of 500ft2 of exterior wall. Suppose that in addition to the heat loss calculated based on the R-value, a door has been left ajar, allowing an additional loss of warm indoor air to the outdoors at a rate of 1lb/min, replaced by cold outside air flowing in. Air has a heat capacity of 0.24BTU/lbF. With this additional heat loss, if the radiator maintains the same heat output (and water flow rate) as before, what is the indoor temperature at steady-state, if the outdoor air is 22F ? Draw and label a diagram of the room, write a mass balance expression, and solve for indoor temperature
