Laverne DeFazio was engaged by Shirley Feeney to defend her in a criminal investigation of accepting bribes from lobbyists. Shirley had a large number of bona fide contributors who did not want their identities revealed. Shirley told Laverne not to disclose any information about the case or any of her contributors to anyone. Later, Laverne's law firm partner assisted in preparing the defense for trial. In the process, she asked Shirley what other contributions she had received. Shirley refused to answer the inquiry. The partner then asked the same question of Laverne.
