Law 100 Assessment 3 Appendix A Case Study: Alice M. You work in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic and one of your clients, Alice M., has committed suicide. She suffered for years with drug addiction and chronic depression. Immediately following the suicide, Alice's parents, who had participated in her treatment at various times in the context of family counselling and with whom you have had a positive relationship, contacted you to discuss this tragic turn of events. You met with Alice's parents, and talk about Alice's lifelong triumphs and challenges. Alice's parents spoke at length about how much they appreciated your efforts to help their daughter. The parents also talked about how difficult it would be for them to bury their daughter the following day. Toward the end of the conversation, Alice's parents told you that they wanted to ask a special favour. They explained that you were an important person in their family's life and that it would mean a lot to them if you would deliver a eulogy at their daughter's funeral. You are touched by the parents' sentiments and their poignant request. You feel close to the family and want to be supportive. At the same time, however, you recognise the ethical dilemma facing you. You are especially concerned about violating Alice's privacy and confidentiality. You are also concerned about managing the boundaries in your relationship with the family
