Law relating to bailment is very extensively codified in the Indian Contract Act 1872 (hereinafter referred as the 'Act'. A careful inquiry in the provisions of the Act reveals the reciprocity in the relationship of bailor and bailee in respect of their respective rights and duties towards each other. In spite of such extensive codification of the duties of bailor and bailee, there are some interpretative difficulties that arise from the bare language of the text and the illustrations used in the Act. Somewhere these duties are so well drafted that we find there is perfection mirroring in that, whereas there are some provisions where we find some ambiguitiesper sein the language used in the sections.
