Lead effective workplace relationships

This task has seven parts. You must complete each part.

Part A

Imagine that are a supervisor in your host organisation and that a situation arises amongst your team where you become concerned that some of the staff are overheard talking negatively about their work and complaining about the organisation, their workload and other team members, including yourself.

You become aware these same team members have also made social media comments about your leadership style, which indicate that you have no empathy or respect for their needs. Describe some practical steps you could take to address the issues raised, and that could help improve strained relationships within the team, particularly with regard to empathy and respect.

Identify at least five steps in your answer and provide reasons for your choice of actions.

Part B

Access and read the host organisation's code of conduct. Does it contain a section that ensures the use of social media must not harm the reputation of the organisation or its employees? If you were trying to focus on improving your relationship with the team, outline how you should handle this ethical or possible code of conduct violation.

Part C

Review the host organisation's values statement. The prevailing culture of your workplace is dictated by the nature of both the organisation's activities and the people, including yourself, that are employed by the organisation. Outline three strategies that you could adopt to help the people in the workplace to more closely reflect the values outlined in the organisation's values statement.

Part D

Outline a 12-month strategy that will enable you to regularly consult with your team and review their combined and individual performance towards achieving the goals set out in the organisation and operational plans.

Part E

Imagine that one of the lowest-performing members of your team has put a post on Facebook that he is looking for another job as 'the organisation is going downhill'. You decide that you need to conduct a performance interview with this person. However, you are uncomfortable running performance meetings, so you decide to make some notes in advance that will help make the meeting positive. Prepare approximately one page of notes to use in the meeting.

You may present this information in a bulleted list if you wish.

Part F

During the performance interview, you realise the poor performance and desire to find a new job are due to conflict between staff. The conflict appears to be about inappropriate practical jokes. This originally began as a bit of fun but has now evolved into behaviour that is creating animosity between the team. Outline the processes that you would adopt to deal with this situation.

Part G

In dealing with this conflict, you discover that one of the team members is taking the matter personally and has questioned the level of transparency and fairness that you are using to resolve the matter. Explain what you should do now to manage this difficulty into a positive outcome.
