Leadership commitment is necessary for success of the total worker health concept because they have to acknowledge first and foremost that safety and health is an important part of the workplace and its culture. By communicating to the workforce that there is a dedicated interest in their wellbeing, it garners feedback and involvement from individuals. As the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (2016) states, management has the responsibility of setting the tone by sharing policies, practices, and programs that are meant to promote safety and health in the workplace which also hopefully trickles into workers everyday lifestyle. Leadership, no matter if it is upper, middle, or lower management, must also facilitate trust and respect so that workers participate in programs and actively voice their concerns and worries as well as their support. Employees that do not have a foundation of leadership are less likely to seek help and risk injury, illness, absenteeism, and a lack of desire to adhere to rules and policies
