1. Law-Related Topic: Choose a law-related topic to write about. a. Create a paper about a law-related topic that is controversial (varying strong opinions) and

advocate for a certain position with citations to sources. i. Example (do not choose this example now): A person could write about

laws controlling the use or ownership of guns. The person could discuss the current status of the law and recent court cases relating to the topic, explain how the adverse side feels about the law, and offer an opinion on what the law should be.

Choose a topic that is of interest to you and one that you have an opinion on.

Once you identify a topic of interest to you, do some preliminary research to determine whether the topic is too broad or too specific - alter your topic, as

necessary.

Research: You need to research your topic and cite sources throughout your paper. While I do want you to advocate for a certain position with regard to your topic, this is more than an opinion paper. You must cite sources.

Length: Your paper should be a minimum of 5 pages (not including your cover page; work cited page; and any ancillary pages).

Font Size and Margins: Use Times New Roman 12-point font with 1-inch margins. Your paper should be double-spaced.

Work Cited: You should have a work cited page. Please research your topic and cite your sources. I do not have a preference of your work cited style; use whatever style you are most comfortable with.

Plagiarism: Do not plagiarize. Cite your sources, do not use someone else's work, and research and write something new.
