Mr. Roger James, a travel agent, arrived at Ottawa International Airport. Ottawa was a regular stopover for him. He gathered his luggage and headed for the area where all the cabs and limos for the various hotels were parked. He gave his luggage to the limo for The Chateau. Once the luggage was safely in the trunk, he took a cab to a local restaurant for lunch. After a wonderful lunch but one that took too long because of slow service, he went on to The Chateau. When he arrived at the front desk, he was informed that the hotel was overbooked but that it had made a reservation for him across the street at the Western Hotel. He was informed that his luggage would be forwarded to the Western Hotel. Later that afternoon, Mr. James checked into the Western Hotel. His luggage never arrived at his room. His luggage contained personal effects valued at $1,200, a laptop computer valued at $925, and a Rolex watch valued at $6,000. He is suing The Chateau, the limo, The Western Hotel, and the restaurant where he had lunch. 2. Ms. Cormack was a travelling sales representative for Beck's Jewellery Company. Her sales territory was Canada. She was on a regular trip to Vancouver and planning on staying at The Impress Hotel. When she arrived at the front desk, she was greeted like a lost friend by the front office manager. She explained to the manager that she did not have time to check in but that she would do so later. This was acceptable to the hotel. Rather than carry her luggage with her, she left it in the care of the front office staff. She then went out to make some calls. When she returned to the hotel, there was a message awaiting her, requesting that she return immediately to Montreal. She asked for her luggage. It could not be found. Ms. Cormack is suing for recovery. She indicates that her loss was personal luggage valued at $2,000, a laptop valued at $925, and a jewellery sample case containing $24,000 in diamonds.
