Lesmurdie Veterinary Clinic is a family business established in 1974. The Clinic offers veterinary care for pet dogs and cats, including surgery, hospitalisation, and in-house lab services.
To cope with the growing business, LVC is looking into the use of computer-based information systems (CBIS) to automate and manage business information processes such as pet registration, pet records and stock tracking. For example, recording and storing when a pet has a vaccination will allow the system to automatically generate a reminder to the client/pet when a booster vaccine is due. LVC hopes that the CBIS will provide relevant tools in critical decision making such as vaccines ordering (e.g., rabies vaccines) and medicines and doses calculation.
The clinic has identified a number of processes it wishes to manage:
1.Pet appointment booking system: allows clients to pre-arrange an appointment with veterinary surgeon at their preferred date and time, as well as to cancel an appointment.
2.Pet registration and treatment records: allows registering of new and/or existing pets into the system, and updating of relevant information such appointments, treatments and vaccine records.
3.Vaccine and/or appointment reminders: this keeps a record of vaccines for pets in the system and schedules the next vaccine date and sends notifications to clients (i.e., owners of the pets)
4.Medication stock and tracking: allows for the classification and storage record creation of medications as they are delivered as well as track medications as they are prescribed for pets
5.Invoice creation and payment system: encompasses invoice and payment processing, inventory tracking - e.g., the invoice system itemises medicines used in a treatment/appointment, and so can provide information regarding ordering new meds.
