Let two identical cameras be placed in canonical geometric position with optical centres O1 and
O2 and parallel optical axes and {:O2O2') as displayed in the above figure. The distance
between the optical centres is the baseline length b and the focal length for both the cameras
is f. Let p,n, and Wchip denote the physical width of one pixel on the camera's sensor, the
number of pixels along one scanline, and the width of the camera's sensor, or the scanline
width, respectively. A point P at depth Z appears in each image at different positions, d1 and
d2, along a scanline. The disparity, d=d1-d2, for the point P is linked to the depth Z(d) of the
point P, the focal length f, and the baseline length, b.
Calculate Z-=Z(d)-Z(d+1) for a disparity of 750, when the cameras are 75.0mm
(millimeters) apart, the focal length is 3.0mm, the number of pixel elements per line is 1000
and the pixel width is 1.0m(micron). Give your answers in millimetres (mm) and round your
answers to 2 decimal places.
