Let's start with a "heads up" on the assignment. The activity becomes meaningful as you complete both this module (2-4) AND the next module (2-5, including multiple lectures on scene perception, and then bias and sensitivity).
The actual assignment is open-ended, expanding upon the idea of neural circuits, to show the mapping from features to meaning. You can use links, and + and - connections, to illustrate a hierarchy that connects inputs (features, objects) to ideas (e.g., concepts, scenes). Again, the project is meaningful in the context of lectures to come: Hierarchical Models, and Top-down Effects in Scene Perception (modules 2-4 AND 2-5). An actual example of a network is provided in Module 2-5.
What to do (after learning from the lectures): Build & describe an interesting network that includes meaningful objects and ideas. Networks extend neural circuits into a "hierarchy." At the higher levels, this is concept mapping and showing relationships between concepts. You'll see the most meaningful network models at the end of lecture 2-5 (part 4!) and in the example. The goal is to use these ideas and have fun with them!
Include:
- features,
- objects,
- scenes / contexts / categories / stereotypes
- and their connections.
Add explanation so it is meaningful!
