Letter to a parent

You are the teacher -

Draft a letter to a parent regarding one of the issues presented below. Your letter should be from the teacher's perspective but should consider the parent's feelings. (Review the section on Family Interactions)

If your last name begins with the letters:	Consider the following when you compose your letter:
1. A through C	Three-year-old Kaitlyn has gone two days in a row without wetting her pants. Mom is still sending her to preschool in diapers, but you believe she is ready for "big girl pants" and several changes of clothes to promote consistency.
2. D through K	Mavis came to school without appropriate clothing again. She never wears long sleeves or has a jacket. There has been a cold front all week, and the daily temperatures have been in the 40s, and often, when it is playground time, the temperatures are still in the 40s.
3. L through P	Samilia is a new student in your class. She has been diagnosed with a speech fluency disorder. Even though a month has passed, Samilia does not participate unless called upon, and she is reluctant to even then. You have made several attempts to help Samilia interact with the other children to no avail. You have decided it is time to seek her parents' input.
4. Q, through Z	Miguel's family, just emigrated from Juarez, Mexico. He speaks very little English, yet seems to be making a few friends. Cinco de Mayo is in two weeks and you thought it would be a good idea to involve his family in culturally related class activities.
