Lignin depolymerization is a beneficial process that can generate value-added products from the lignin raw materials. Lignins composition contains three different types of alcohol groups, namely Ethanol, 1-Propanol, and Formaldehyde. The depolymerization reaction products must be separated for recycling purposes and recovery of the valuable products for downstream uses. Flash3 portrays the 3 phase flash vessel in the Aspen software. This unit has three feed streams and three outlet streams: a single vapour stream and two liquid streams. The feed conditions and the mass flowrates are as follows: The temperature and pressure are sent through at the industrial room temperature, which is 30 and pressure of 1,1 atm. The flow rates for four components are Water 100 kg/hr, Ethanol 25 kg/hr, 1-Propanol 75 kg/hr, Formaldehyde 100 kg/hr. The objectives are to implement a control scheme that controls the two liquids products streams by controlling the levels and controlling the overall pressure of the system by controlling the vapour stream.

1. Derive the dynamic mass and energy balances for this system.

2. List the proposed manipulated and controlled variables.

3. Design a proposed control scheme to achieve the desired control objectives.
