Listen to the Freakonomics podcast posted in the Unit 1 section. Read a couple articles about LIV Golf. I have pasted a link to one below. The LIV Golf series is actually coming to Illinois in September - they are hosting a tournament at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove - so you can even find some local press about the league.

In your first post - describe how you see sports playing a role in culture. You should certainly address the US, but be sure to also take a global perspective. Think about the determinants of culture described in Chapter 4 starting on page 100. (Initial posts should be about two hundred fifty words. Break for paragraphs when appropriate.)

For your peer reponse post (one) - connect his/her discussion of sports and culture to LIV Golf. Does the concept of "sportswashing" make sense? Does it seem like a feasible strategy? Who is taking the biggest risk with this league - the players or the league owners? Are there ethical issues to consider?

Initial posts are due by Thursday, June 23 at 11:59 pm. Response post is due by Sunday, June 26 at 11:59 pm.
