Lites Inc has about 120 workers. Ron has worked for Lites for 12 years in the production department and makes $1000 per week. He is often late for work but his bosses ignore it. Ron also phones sick on Fridays in the summer to get longer weekends, and the bosses know he is not sick, but they do nothing. Recently Ron came back 30 minutes late from lunch and the boss smelled beer on him. When the boss asked if he'd been drinking, Ron said "Loave me alone, I can do my job." The boss got angry and in front of 12 co-workers screamed "Get your drunken, lazy, irresponsible self out of here. I've had enough. You're fired!" Ron left and called a lawyer. Ron insists he'll get his job back plus a lot of money. Mary is an accountant who has worked at Lites for 6 years. She had triplets 1 year ago and has just returned to work. She told Lites she can only work 3 days a week because of the children. Lites told her that she could work 3 days a week, but she would have to start at 6:00 a.m. and work until 7.00 p.m. on those three days. Mary said she couldn't work those long hours. Lites said that was all it could do for her, so she quit. Mary has contacted a lawyer and plans to sue. All Lites employment contracts have a clause that states termination notice is limited to 6 weeks. Discuss all legal issues and remedies with the case. (10 Marks)
