Living wages and universal basic incomes continue to be major policy topics. The basic principal is to increase minimum wage levels such that a full-time worker may earn an income that would keep them out of poverty. In turn, a universal basic income would ensure that households receive an unconditional minimum level of money. Known as the "Mincome Experiment", Manitoba adopted a universal basic income model from 1974-1979, which many posit was rather successful. However, fiscal conservatism dominated much of the 1980s, ending this programme. Further, there are concerns that living wages and/or a universal basic income will be ineffective, arguing that such policies will cause both inflation and unemployment (particularly among low-skilled workers) to rise. Given the above, discuss the concept of adopting a living wage model and/or a universal basic income.
