Look up the complaint in a real-world lawsuit. It can be any lawsuit, past or present, it just has to be a real case. The easiest way to approach this would probably be to think of a case you find interesting and Google the complaint in it. (If you want to use a criminal case, that is fine. Just be aware that there won't be a "complaint." The equivalent document in a criminal case will usually be called an "indictment". You

can use an indictment instead of a complaint for this assignment.)

Then answer these questions:

1. What is the complaint's URL, if online? If it's not an online document, where did you find the complaint? (Please note that you cannot simply get a complaint from a family member or friend who is a lawyer. Finding a complaint is part of the assignment.)

2. In one or two sentences, what are the factual allegations in the complaint? For example, "The plaintiff alleges that the defendant sold fake handbags with the plaintiff's logo on them.")

3. In one or two sentences, what are the legal claims in the complaint? For example, "The plaintiff claims that this is copyright infringement."

4. In one or two sentences, what does the plaintiff demand? For example, "The plaintiff demands an amount to be determined later at trial."

It's OK if your answers to these questions oversimplify the complaint. This assignment should take roughly an hour, including finding the complaint and reading it, and you cannot summarize most complaints completely in that time. Just describe the biggest/most important elements as you see them. The completed assignment need only be a paragraph or so in length; it can be as little as a few sentences.
