Look up this company's code of ethics. Also, find some news articles on the company. See if you can find any information that would dispute this position in the passage below (i.e. if it says they think Facebook touts customer confidentiality - see if you can fine a news article that might dispute that, we all know that wouldn't be hard.) Debate the position in the passage below regarding whether you think the assessment of the company is correct. The goal is not to trash the company, but for you to truly think about what it means to be an ethical company and why.

Who is PepsiCo, Inc?

Pepsi,Co's products includes foods and beverages from Lay's, Doritos, Cheetos, Gatorade, Pepsi-Cola, Mountain Dew, Quaker, and SodaStream. The company serves more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. In 2022, PepsiCo generated $86 billion in net revenue. Over the years, PepsiCo has invested $570M in Racial Equality and employs 291K people globally.

Mission & Vision

PepsiCo's mission is to: "Create more smiles with every sip and every bite." Their mission is written for consumers, customers, associates, communities, the planet, and shareholders.

PepsiCo's vision is: "to Be the Global Leader in Beverages and Convenient Foods by Winning with PepsiCo Positive (pep+). Pep+ is our strategic end-to-end transformation that puts sustainability and human capital at the center of how we will create value and growth by operating within planetary boundaries and inspiring positive change for planet and people."

PepsiCo's aspirations are to create faster consumer-centric investments, stronger capabilities and technologies, and better communities and business strategies.

Global Code of Conduct

"Acting with integrity is the right thing to do, and only makes our business stronger."

PepsiCo has a short, but straightforward Code of Conduct displayed on their website. However, you are able to download their full Code of Conduct from this webpage, which offers a much more detailed look at the company's business operations, missions, and values. Introduction, Act with Integrity, In Our Workplace, In Our Marketplace, In Business, In Our World, and Resources.

Their Code of Conduct focuses on respect, trust, fairness, honesty, and purpose. The employees are expected to embrace the foundation of the company's commitment to ethical excellence. PepsiCo's Global Code of Conduct was first established October 1, 2012, but is amended periodically to address changing laws or procedures that could potentially impact the business.

The main webpage also offers a Speak Up Hotline that you can contact if you suspect possible violations of the company's code.

Ethical Issues

When researching ethical issues within PepsiCo's organization, I did not find much. The company faced a few issues years ago regarding lobbying against public health legislation targeting the obesity epidemic and engaging in deceptive marketing practices, but the company took steps to remedy those issues, including revising its Code of Conduct to better clarify their expectations.

Ethisphere's 2023 Most Ethical Companies Honoree List

In 2023, 135 organizations are being recognized for their excellent commitment to business integrity, and PepsiCo made the list. PepsiCo is a 17 time honoree that holds an annual revenue of $86,000,000,000.

My Thoughts on PepsiCo

Personally, I think that PepsiCo does a great job at upholding ethical standards and practices within their company. Anytime you google a company and don't find much "dirt" on them is a good thing. There were a few unethical issues PepsiCo was involved in, but these issues were years ago and they immediately took action to rectify the situations. There website clearly displays their mission and values and allows you full access to their lengthy Code of Conduct. PepsiCo prides itself on integrity and ethical practices and I believe they do a great job at displaying that. Another thing I loved seeing was the Speak Up Hotline that they have so you are able to call and report any violations of the company's code or unethical behavior. A company that provides a resource for such things truly cares about their customers/employees feedback and satisfaction.
