Discuss economic methodology, including the concept of cost-based analysis. If you will not be addressing this in your DPI Project, provide an example of a program where it could be used to show outcomes. Provide examples and literature support.
Health economic methodology and evaluations are used to evaluate medical costs and reimbursement by private and public healthcare providers (Park, Jit, & Wu, 2018). A cost-effectiveness analysis evaluates the ratio of the incremental cost of the medical intervention to the health benefit of that intervention (Park et al., 2018). Cost-benefit analysis (CBA) will refer to any analysis that is used in a decision-making process to compare the cost and benefit of the healthcare investment/intervention (Park et al., 2018). CBA's leads to transparent medical decision-making in regards to the scope of economic evaluations; costs and benefits; and outcomes and effects of health interventions (Perkins, Steinback, & Tompson, 2016). CBAs analyze the costs and benefits of the interventions and values all factors in monetary units (Perkins et al., 2016).
Cost-based analysis willnot be used in my DPI project; however, this can be used in eHealth programs. EHealth programs are essentially any technical format used in medicine, such as telemedicine, telehealth, and telemonitoring (Bergom, 2015). EHealth may not be appropriate for all medical health conditions, however, this is a cost-effective way to provide some healthcare needs (Bergom, 2015). EHealth has been found to reduce diagnosis time, improve access equity, improve patient satisfaction, while also providing a cost-effective healthcare plan (Bergmo, 2015). ama1
