"Final Discussion Board Assignment

For the Discussion topics, please use the space provided and do not attach documents containing your words. If you have a picture or graphic that is relevant, then you can attach that.

1. What are the two [three, four, five] most significant [central, useful, meaningful, surprising, disturbing] things you have learned during this course? Reflect on some of your perspectives before taking this course and how they have changed, if at all, based on what you have been exposed to in this course.

2. What are some things that you would like to understand even better?"

3. For Your Response Posts, Expand On Your Understanding Of The Topics Others Used For Question 2.

Peer 1: "The concept I keep struggling with is how to interpret the graphs. I am usually good at reading and interpreting graphs, but these seem to trip me up. I dreaded the homework problems where we had to draw a new supply or demand curve given information because I never understood it. The chapter 26 graphs were especially confusing to me. I fully understand the concepts, I just don't understand the graphs. I know this is something that you guys can't really help me with, but if you have any tips, let me know! I will just have to keep practicing until I feel confident in analyzing them. Chapter 31 talked about efficient abatement and coase bargaining, which I found beneficial but confusing as well."

Peer 2: "I would like to have a better understanding of how we can determine which government programs are achieving their goals, and how we might enhance the programs that are not reaching their goals.I would like to better understand how we can make our government programs more effective, and only available to those who would use them as an opportunity to raise themselves up through hard work, education, and discipline unless the recipients are unable to function normally.I would like to become better at analyzing opportunity costs to reach the best choices in my own life, as well as, in how our society uses the resources we have to accomplish the best possible outcome for everyone in our society. This course has given me a new way of looking at economics. At using data and understanding of how free markets work best on competition and little regulation to achieve the best efficiency and prices for all producers and consumers.I just want to get better at finding new ways of using these ideas to enhance my personal life, and to also get better at deciding which political candidates to vote for that will best use their understanding of economics to help produce a higher quality of life for all citizens."

Peer 3: "I think still price elasticity is the one thing I did not and still do not understand the most. I think it maybe the math that is involved. I had not taken any college level math courses as of yet and I wish I would have. In general, most of the graphing we have to do at various times also trips me up and I sometimes struggle with them. Determining price elasticity or inelasticity and then plugging them into the formula to find a number. Overall, I got a lot of this class, many new things that I either learned more on or had learned of something I had never heard of. As I stated above, the graphing was my biggest hurdle and there were a couple other things that I had trouble with. All in all, I understood it enough to move on to the next group of classes."
